Cine Dante: Habemus Papam

This month, we take a break from our ‘journey’ films to screen a very timely film. Almost fifteen years before Conclave, acclaimed Italian filmmaker Nanni Moretti made an exceptional film that focused not just on the selection of the Pope, but on the human side of the diverse group of cardinals involved in the process and the inevitable deep feelings of doubt experienced by the person elected to the eminent position. The great actor Michele Piccoli delivers an unforgettable performance as the elected Pope who escapes the Vatican and wanders through the streets of Rome in search of answers. Meanwhile, back at the Vatican cappuccino craving Australian cardinals and a hilarious volleyball match overseen by the psychiatrist (played by Moretti himself) add levity to a film that has been called “thought-provoking”, “hilarious”, “sensitive”, and “groundbreaking.” Ultimately as Moretti explains, Habemus Papam is not a film about the Pope or the Catholic Church; it’s a film about humility.

Passate a trovarci alla Dante, Long Room, sabato 24 maggio dalle 9:30, prima del Cantastorie (10-12). Ci sono libri per bambini di tutte le età e giocattoli per i più piccini. Festa di Pasqua per bambini

Festa per famiglie con bambini! Una bella occasione per incontrarci, conoscere nuova gente e far giocare i bambini in italiano. Tutti benvenuti, mandate un' email alla info@dante.org.nz per farci sapere quanti bambini portate, e le età, così possiamo prepararci meglio.

Scrittura Creativa - Seconda Edizione!

 

Torna il laboratorio di scrittura creativa in italiano!

Dopo le epiche avventure della prima edizione – culminate nel librino Trieste, addio!, nato dalla collaborazione tra insegnanti e studenti – a grande richiesta organizziamo una seconda edizione.

Questa volta le quattro lezioni intensive, condotte da Barbara Martelli e Elia Brassanello e aperte a studenti e appassionati di italiano con un livello intermedio o avanzato, seguiranno il filo della scrittura diaristica.

Attraverso la lettura di testi letterari e coinvolgenti esercizi di storytelling, impareremo insieme a sviluppare ambientazioni vivide, personaggi credibili e sfaccettati, dialoghi avvincenti, ostacoli e sorprese.

Quasi senza accorgercene, mentre ci perderemo nella narrazione, miglioreremo le nostre capacità comunicative in italiano e approfondiremo la comprensione culturale dell'Italia.

Il percorso si concluderà con la stesura di una pagina dal diario dei nostri protagonisti, che confluirà in una piccola antologia collettiva.

The Italian Creative Writing Workshop is back!

After the epic adventures of the first edition — culminating in the mini-book Trieste, addio!, born from the collaboration between teachers and students — we are thrilled to launch a second edition by popular demand.

This time, the four intensive sessions, led by Barbara Martelli and Elia Bressanello and open to students and Italian enthusiasts with an intermediate to advanced level, will follow the thread of diary writing.

Reading literary texts and engaging storytelling exercises will teach us to craft vivid settings, believable and multifaceted characters, compelling dialogue, obstacles and surprises.

Almost without realizing it, as we get lost in the stories, we will strengthen our communication skills in Italian and deepen our cultural understanding of Italy.

The journey will conclude with writing a diary page from the perspective of our protagonist, which will be included in a small collaborative anthology.

COLAZIONE ALLA DANTE CON FEDERICA BRESSAN!!!

Saturday 29th of March, during our Colazione, we will have a special guest presenting her book Nel cuore della Tuscia (Ed. SetteCittà, Viterbo, 2022). The name of our guest is Federica Bressan, and her book Nel cuore della Tuscia is a short novel set in Tuscia — a historical region of central Italy that comprises part of the territories under Etruscan influence, or Etruria, named so since the Roman conquest. Federica's talk will be in English and Italian (the book is in Italian, English and Dutch). A few book copies will be available for the public to purchase. Come and enjoy a coffee/cappuccino while being taken by Federica on an amazing journey through this area of Italy filled with art and history! Siete tutti benvenuti!!!

It is time to renew your Dante membership. At the last AGM, held on 8^th of March 2025, the committee has decided that there will be no changes on membership fees for 2025. 

We would like to invite all current members to renew their membership, this can be done online with a bank transfer to:

 

Società Dante Alighieri BNZ a/c 020192-0309263-00 with the reference "LASTNAME/MSHIP”. 

Language students can also pay by eftpos when they attend classes.

If you like you can also add a donation to the Society with your membership. The Dante Alighieri Society of Auckland is a registered charity with ‘donee’ status, and we can provide receipts for your donations on request. Any donation, no matter how small, greatly helps us with the day to day running of our society.

Couples or family - $40 per couple or family 

Seniors and tertiary students - $15 per person
