Born in LuccaTuscany, Giacomo Puccini has become one of the greatest Italian composers since Verdi. His operas: Tosca, Madama Butterfly, La bohème and Turandot have become standard repertoire for opera around the world.

In July the APO brings to life one of the most popular operas of all time… Puccini’s, Turandot. Set in ancient Peking, the opera centres around the beautiful but vengeful Princess Turandot who has sworn against love and will only marry the man who can solve her three riddles.

Those who fail are punished by death.
Prince Calàf, the deposed Prince of Tartary, answers the riddles, and Turandot, suddenly afraid, begs to be released. Calàf offers her a trial of his own: if she can find out his name by dawn, he will allow himself to be killed.

With a talented cast whose eading roles are talented Italian’s Tiziana Caruso and Thiago Arancam, plus returning favourite Rúni Brattaberg (2013 Tristan und Isolde) this concert will be an outstanding performance of one of the most beautiful scores in opera, including one of the most popular of all tenor arias, ‘Nessun dorma’.

Will true love be enough to soften the vengeful princess' heart?
