On Monday 5th September we said goodbye to H.E. Carmelo Barbarello, Ambassador of Italy, leaving his post and New Zealand to return to Rome.
The Ambassador organised an aperitif at the Northern Club, were Italians and Kiwis from Auckland mingled and had a last chance to say farewell. During his two years in New Zealand Carmelo Barbarello managed to do so much for our community and everyone present was sad to see him leave. We will also miss his warm personality and readiness to help.
For the occasion the Ambassador was also presented with a traditional Sardinia nuptial bread by the visiting delegation of Luna Nuova (you will be able to learn more about these breads during this free lecture on 21 September, and during a special exhibition at the Festival Italiano).
The Dante Alighieri Society of Auckland wishes all the best to Carmelo Barbarello in his future postings in Rome and overseas, and we look forward to meet the new Ambassador at the Festival Italiano on 25th September.
